Aleyda Davalos
Tutor
Hello! My name is Aleyda Davalos and I am a student at De Anza College studying Aerospace Engineering and Mexican American Studies. I was born in Nezahualcóyotl, Mexico (Mexico City) and immigrated to the United States when I was six years old. I am a first generation college student and advocate for higher education in undeserved communities. Attending school has always been a great privilege since it taught me to use my voice and allowed me to escape into a world that is impartial, in which everyone has an opportunity to better themselves. I am honored to be working with Elevate Tutoring since it allows me to help our future generation close the education gap and succeed in their higher education journey.

I grew up in San Jose but I was born in Tijuana, Mexico and moved to the United States when I was 4 months old. I am a first-generation college student and I plan to attend law school after I graduate. My goal is to become an immigration lawyer because I personally know the struggles and disadvantages that are present in the immigrant community. In addition, I want to learn the various ways I can help others and I believe being a tutor in Elevate is one of them. Through this program, I can help students with any problem they face while being an extra support system. I think that education is a fundamental aspect for the future which is why I am glad to be a tutor.

Dominic Magdaluyo
Tutor
My name is Dominic Magdaluyo and I'm a senior at Santa Clara University studying Computer Science and Engineering. I was born and raised in San Francisco and transferred into Santa Clara University from City College of San Francisco after earning multiple associate's degrees. I'm a returning adult student and I decided to go to college because I was often overlooked for career advancement at work due to not having a bachelor's degree. I will be the first person in my family to earn a degree this Spring and plan on pursuing a master's degree while working as a software engineer. As a student who struggled in the past, I was drawn to Elevate for the opportunity to help other students that might encounter the same hurdles I encountered as a student. I'm a vocal supporter for diversity, and I know my trajectory for education could've been completely different growing up if I was exposed to more engineering students like myself right now.
Peter Pham
Tutor
Hi there! I’m Peter from San Jose, CA: born, raised, and lived since. Currently, I’m a student at De Anza College and Foothill College, where I hope to pursue mechanical engineering and anthropology at a four-year university once I transfer with the goal of being trained in how to study people and getting the technical knowledge essential to any engineer. With that, I’d like to combine those two skill sets to help people by better identifying the need and being able to develop something (either physical or policy) to answer that need in my professional life later on. That’s also why I joined Elevate. I admire the program’s sustainable and circular model. It “hits two birds with one stone” by financially supporting current college students with their education while giving back to the local community by tutoring students from under-served areas. That goes on to equip these students to succeed academically, which will allow them to avoid or get out of poverty, while building relationships between tutors, tutees, and the local schools/communities. BRILLIANT, right? That’s why I like Elevate, and I hope to do something like this too in my professional career.
Ashley Rosas
Tutor
Hi! My name is Ashley Rosas and I am a junior transfer student at Santa Clara University. I am currently majoring in math in hopes of becoming a future math teacher for either high school or community college students. I was born and raised in San Jose, California but when I turned 12 years old, my family moved to Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico where I completed some middle school and most of my high school. I feel very fortunate for being able to study in 2 different countries because I was able to meet so much family as well as fully immerse myself in my Mexican culture. It was a humbling experience that taught me the value of family and hard work. It has definitely shaped me into the person I am today because having faced many obstacles in my life, I have been able to push through thanks to the support of my family and many of my teachers. Therefore, I am excited to be in Elevate because I hope to be that support for other students, to help them believe in themselves and their abilities just like others have done for me.
Han Trinh
Tutor
Hi! My name is Han Trinh, and I am currently a student at San Jose State University majoring in Kinesiology with concentration in Rehabilitation Science. I was born and raised in Vietnam. My family moved to the United States about 6 years ago so that I and my brother can have a better education. I love singing, playing badminton and hanging out with my friends. Being an immigrant and first generation college student, I understand how hard it is for students like me when we want to seek out help. Therefore, the reason why I joined Elevate is to encourage other students to pursue their dreams and let them know that they are not alone; there are still many people caring for them and who want them to be successful in their life. I also find myself very lucky to be a part of Elevate because I admire how Elevate aims to help low income middle school and high school students. Elevate gives me opportunities to give back to the community and help students coming from the same background as me, which I am truly thankful for.
Lillian Truong
Tutor
Hi! My name is Lillian Truong and I am a sophomore at Santa Clara University. I hope to graduate after my third year with a B.S. in Commerce, concentrating in Accounting and Information Systems. As a child of immigrant parents and a first-generation college student, I struggled growing up in a society unfamiliar to anyone in my family. Since my parents were not able to pursue their education beyond their GED, they emphasized that a college education was essential for me and my brothers to achieve a life that they never had. Elevate helps me become that support system for students today in my local community that may be facing similar fears and struggles that I have. I want to not only help them with grasping math topics but also with internalizing the importance of a higher education and all of the ways it can open up more doors for them in the future.

Farah Villanueva
Tutor
Hello! My name is Farah Villanueva, and I am currently a first year student at Santa Clara University studying Communications. After completing my undergraduate studies, I am hoping to pursue a Master’s Degree in Higher Education or Education Administration. I have a passion for helping the community, especially individuals who come from low-income backgrounds and are first generation students. As a first generation student myself, I understand the struggles associated with trying to navigate and succeed in an education system that both you and your parents are unfamiliar with. I want to be able to be a resource to others who are in the same position as I was and give them the opportunities and support that I wish I had when I was growing up. Elevate gives me an opportunity to be that resource to students and hopefully be a positive influence on them as they continue through their educational careers. I hope to not only help students understand math, but inspire them to pursue a higher education and support their aspirations, letting them know that they are capable of anything they want to achieve.

Welcome! My name is Alondra Vizcarra and I am a first year student at Santa Clara University majoring in mathematics. I was born and raised in San Jose, California. I am a first-generation college student with goals of completing higher education and assisting others like my younger sister in doing so as well. Education has always been very important to me and has taught me the value of learning and then teaching others, which is partially why I was interested in Elevate Tutoring. Additionally, I was drawn to Elevate for the opportunity to help other students, many from my own high school, achieve their goals and hopes in education.
